Counselor-in-Training (CIT)

Ages 13-15, entering 8th-9th grade

CITs will work alongside camp staff and learn the day-to-day operations of camp and what it takes to be employed at Marinwood. The program will develop your child’s leadership skills through training, observation and practice. CITs will be assigned to a specific camp each session and have a chance to immerse themselves in that age group. CITS are expected to participate in and assist with camp activities, help supervise campers at all times, work under the supervision of the Camp Director and help provide a fun, positive and safe experience for campers. Marinwood’s goal for our CITS is to make friends, learn leadership skills, and enjoy a summer with Marinwood! When it comes time to apply as a camp counselor, our CITs definitely have a leg up on other applicants.

FAQs

When will I know if my child will be accepted and for what weeks?
We typically accept all applicants to the program, assuming they are enthusiastic about becoming a CIT and we don't have any doubts about their suitability for the program. After they attend the training, the camp assignments will be released on Friday, May 30. CITs are assigned to weeks they indicated on their application. You are not required to register for all your assigned weeks but the spot will not be held after June 6.

Can I make any changes to my schedule after the assignments are released?
Yes, you may notify us if you no longer can attend a certain session or wish to add additional sessions, space dependent.

Can my CIT be paired with their best friend?
CITs are assigned based on their marked age preferences but we cannot guarentee friends will be assigned to the same camp. In fact, we discourage it. We have found that if friends are paired, their attention is usually not fully focused on the campers nor the camp needs. Each camp typically has 3 CITs so it's a great way to meet new friends and staff.

Questions? Please contact Robyn at rbruton@marinwood.org. Also contact Robyn for information on helping as a CIT for our After School Program and school break camps.

Check out our Guards in Training Program. Kids can participate in both during the summer!
